HACIENDA DEL S-PAR ARABIANS, Stilwell, Kansas, places the care and well being of the horses above all else. It is of primary importance. Says Suzy Sankpill, who with her husband Alan is owner of Hacienda Del S-Par, "I have no plan to be or become a 'big time' training or breeding center. We specialize in the individual needs of each horse, owner, and rider. Our staff, functioning more like a family, also believes these things are important."
Suzy became a horse owner at age six. Her uncle, captain of the Chicago polo team, gave her one of his retired Polo Ponies. She comments, "My great love of horses has brought me many wonderful experiences." Among these have been riding at a full gallop through uncharted brush in pursuit of the hounds as the youngest member of the Mission Valley Hunt Club; riding with the "Rodeo Kids"; being a Pony Club member; riding in the American Royal Parade and with the Saddle and Sirloin Drill Team; the thrill of winning at the American Royal Horse Show both in Jumping and Hunter on the Flat, as well as the Saddlehorse divisions; and jumping seven feet! "It's been more than 50 years with horses; the last 33 years have been a delightful involvement with the Arabian."
About the S-Par Breeding Program, Suzy comments, "There is no real magic to it except for the years of study, research, thought, and planning which have gone into the careful blending of bloodlines. The foundation is the Polish/Crabbet cross. I find this cross produces the most consistently beautiful, sound, athletically talented, and willingly trainable horses."
Continuing, she says, "There are so many things here that bring joy and happiness into my life. The one most special to me is the foaling season. Watching and waiting through the night brings a special closeness with the mares. Then there's that wondrous moment when the waiting's over and a healthy foal arrives. I feel a great sense of accomplishment when watching these same S-Par bred babies grown and being recognized in the show ring"
